On-Chip Detector Cooling for Space Applications

چکیده
Vibration-free miniature Joule-Thomson (JT) coolers are of interest for cooling small optical detectors for future space missions. The European Space Agency is interested in on-chip detector cooling for the temperature range 70¶K¶-¶250¶K. This is the topic of a new project at the University of Twente. In this project, the focus is on the integration of Micro-ElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS) based JT coolers with small detectors for space applications. Furthermore, distributed micro cooling will be investigated, which means that multiple cold tips will be driven by a single compressor. The progress of this project is discussed in this paper. The application of JT coolers in the temperature range 70¶K¶-¶250¶K is investigated. The working fluid in a JT cold stage is optimized on basis of the thermodynamical properties of the fluid. The results of this optimization are discussed. Furthermore, a static model of the counter flow heat exchanger is built, in order to simulate the performance of a micro JT cold stage. The results of the simulations are compared with experimental data.

Influence of Water Cooling on Orthogonal Cutting Process of Ti-6Al-4V Using Smooth-Particle Hydrodynamics Method
Temperature control during the cutting process with different parameters such as cutting velocity and applying water cooling is essential to decrease the cutting force, increase the life of the cutting tool and decrease the machined surface temperature of work-piece. In this research, the temperature of machined surface and the chip-tool interface in orthogonal cutting process of Ti-6Al-4V were...
متن کاملReliability and Performance Evaluation of Fault-aware Routing Methods for Network-on-Chip Architectures (RESEARCH NOTE)
Nowadays, faults and failures are increasing especially in complex systems such as Network-on-Chip (NoC) based Systems-on-a-Chip due to the increasing susceptibility and decreasing feature sizes. On the other hand, fault-tolerant routing algorithms have an evident effect on tolerating permanent faults and improving the reliability of a Network-on-Chip based system. This paper presents reliabili...

The LHCb experiment at the LHC will upgrade its detector to take data at luminosities of above 1033 cm−2s−1 from 2018 onwards. The fully upgraded detector will use a new front-end electronics to readout collision events at 40MHz. A new fully software based trigger will be implemented and will increase the trigger efficiencies, specially in the hadronic decay channels. The silicon vertex detecto...
متن کاملSuperconducting Microstrip-Fed Antenna Coupled to a Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detector
A proper antenna to couple to a microstrip Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detector (MKID) is designed and simulated. A twin-slot microstrip-fed inline antenna is designed for frequency band of 600-720~GHz integrated with an elliptical lens and coupled to the MKID. A systematic design procedure for design of such antenna with microstrip inline feeding is presented. Whole structure of lens and twin...
